To begin umpiring you’ll need a set of basic equipment. The required uniform and equipment is listed below with links to online stores from which you can buy gear. Before you buy any gear ask a local assignor or officials organization if there is any spare gear available. Often veteran or retiring umpires will donate gear, or a local association may have a scholarship available.
Logos for hats and shirts will vary by organization. The examples here are for IHSA and IESA games. Most organizations require you wear their logo on your shirt and hat while working their games. The exception is some NJCAA and NCAA softball which requires plain powder blue or navy blue shirts and plain navy blue hats. Contact the assignor for a given organization to be sure you have the correct uniform.
