The Spring 2022 varsity and junior varsity schedules for U-High have been posted for umpires to apply to games.
Games will start being assigned on Friday, September 10 in order for everyone to have a chance to get their names in. Umpires, please make sure your blocked dates in Arbiter are up-to-date. You may apply via Airtable, or by emailing me directly.
Currently, all U-High home games will be played at Fairview Park in Normal and are varsity/junior varsity doubleheaders. U-High does intend to add a few additional games which will be posted to the Open Games list.
Thank you everyone for an extremely successful year! Athletic Directors worked tirelessly to schedule, and reschedule games. Coaches worked with their student-athletes to prepare them for a condensed season and battled the unparalleled challenge of a high school season that overlapped with the travel softball season. Schools adjusted to COVID-related cancelations, extremely busy schedules, and sometimes only having one umpire to work a game.
Umpires gave of themselves tirelessly, often working more often than they normally would so girls could play, and handled cancelations and changes with grace and understanding. They dealt with daily emails asking for officials to work games, and stepped up where there was a need.
Between the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 seasons, CISassigning assigned 338 dates, totaling over 550 games. There were 90 junior high dates and 248 high school dates.
I continue to strive to provide above-average service to schools, advocate for umpires and facilitate umpire training and mentoring, all while building mutual respect between all parties involved in these games.
My sincere thank you to all ADs, coaches, and umpires for the work you put in this past academic year to allow students to play a sport they love.
This message is a reminder that the IHSA license renewal period begins on Thursday, July 1 and run through July 31. The fee for one sport is $70, with the second sport costing $20, and each subsequent license costing $15.
On Wednesday, June 30, Arbiter is updating the Schedule page of its website. These changes will be visible by assignors, coaches, ADs, and umpires. There are no functional changes, but the updated design should be easier to read.
Here are some of the updates you’ll notice:
Increased white space to make text easier to read
Eliminated vertical grid lines (more focus on the row, and less on an Excel-like spreadsheet)
Added a color-coded game status field
Added an Actions column
Updated action buttons (for notes and reports)
Below is an image of what the Schedule page will look like once it’s updated later this month. Click the image to see a larger version.
